Lance Martin and Jim Parnell are two people who actively take part in youth sports in the town of Dartmouth Massachusetts. They have coached Pop Warner Football for the past 3 seasons for the Dartmouth Youth Football League, which plays in the RISMA Pop Warner League.

Lance was a highly regarded running back for Dartmouth High School in the late 70's. His ability, his dedication to the game of football and the effort he put into training allowed him to earn a full scholarship to Syracuse University. Lance is fully aware of what it takes to succeed at a high level of competition. He understands what it takes to train properly and he is motivated by young athletes who are willing to listen and learn.

In the last 8 years, Jim has coached football, soccer, baseball, softball and basketball in both Dartmouth and New Bedford. Jim has been involved in both boys and girls leagues and believes a program like this is needed to help develop proper training techniques for kids in our communities.

Both Lance and Jim have willingly given their time and effort to young athletes in this area. What keeps them going? Not only is there a love of the game that brings out their enthusiasm, but it is coaching kids of all ages that keeps them returning to the field year after year.

Take a look at Our Goals

Our idea:
Provide a facility for kid’s ages 7-18 to train with educated athletes. To provide guidance to young athletes and help them maximize their athletic potential.

Does this program address a need?
Currently there are very few programs that enable children to work towards a goal to better themselves physically. This program is not just for the competitive athlete, it is for children who need to exercise, who need to learn about nutrition, who need to take part in something that will motivate them to work hard, be responsible and understand that “you get what you give”.

What's unique about us?
SMAT is unique because our goal is to reach out to the children in our community, to ask them to take pride in themselves, to ask them to work for what they want. We look at our program as a character building process that each participant will be required to take part in. We will demand from our members Discipline, Respect and Responsibility.

Who are the key employees?
Lance and Jim will oversee all of the physical training. With an incredible background in athletics, Lance Martin will be able to teach each member of the program how to properly train their bodies.

This program will also utilize the help of volunteers.

What is the cost?
Enrollment in the SMAT eight-week program will be paid the first day of each month. Each member will be required to pay $80/month for the program. This payment is due at the beginning of each 4-week period. For an idea on the types of exercises each athlete will be asked to participate in, click on our Drills page.

Potential added services include:

  • Personal Training: (extra cost)
    • 1 session: $20
    • 6 sessions: $100
How will we measure our success?
Success of this program will be measured by how many members continue to come to the program. We will set attainable goals of membership and growth on a quarterly basis.

What are our key milestones?
Key milestones will be actually beginning this program. After that, some of the milestones will be to develop programs that are beneficial to each participating athlete. We would like to offer programs focusing on health of the children both emotionally and physically.
