ABOUT US

Lance MartinLance Martin and Jim Parnell are two people who actively take part in youth sports in the town of Dartmouth Massachusetts. They have coached Pop Warner Football for the past 5 seasons for the Dartmouth Youth Football League, which plays in the RISMA Pop Warner League.

Lance was a highly regarded running back for Dartmouth High School in the late 70's. His ability, his dedication to football and track and the effort he put into training allowed him to earn a full scholarship to Syracuse University. Lance is fully aware of what it takes to succeed at a high level of competition. He understands what it takes to train properly and he is motivated by young athletes who are willing to listen and learn.

In the last 10 years, Jim has coached football, soccer, baseball, softball and basketball in both Dartmouth and New Bedford. Jim has been involved in both boys and girls leagues and believes a program like this is needed to help develop proper training techniques for kids in our communities.

Jim ParnellBoth Lance and Jim have willingly given their time and effort to young athletes in this area. What keeps them going? Not only is there a love of the game that brings out their enthusiasm, but it is coaching kids of all ages that keeps them returning to the field year after year.

Our Goals

Our idea:
Provide a program for kid’s ages 8-18 to train with educated coaches. To provide guidance to young athletes and help them maximize their athletic potential.

Does this program address a need?
Currently there are very few programs that enable children to work towards a goal to better themselves physically. This program is not just for the competitive athlete, it is for children who need to exercise, who need to learn about nutrition, who need to take part in something that will motivate them to work hard, be responsible and understand that “you get what you give”.

What's unique about us?
SMAT is unique because our goal is to reach out to the children in our community, to ask them to take pride in themselves, to ask them to work for what they want. We look at our program as a character building process that each participant will be required to take part in. We will demand from our members Discipline, Respect and Responsibility.

What is the cost?
We are happy to announce that our prices have not changes in the three years we have run the program. If your child has attended local athletic camps in the area, you know the cost for camps can range anywhere from $100 to over $300 per week. At SMAT, each member will be required to pay $80/month for the program. This payment is due at the beginning of each 4-week period. We have also included a "pay-as -you-go" option for our athletes. For an idea on the types of exercises each athlete will be asked to participate in, click on our Drills page.

Potential added services include:

  • Personal Training: this would be done as an extra service and would require an extra cost per athlete. If this interests you, please speak to Lance and Jim for more information.

How will we measure our success?
Success of this program will be measured by how many members continue to come back to the program. We consider ourselves fortunate to have the opportunity to work with kids who:

  1. are willing to listen to what we are teaching
  2. are able to apply it to their training regimine
  3. are dedicated to working hard

What are our key milestones?
Going into our third full year, we feel we have already met a couple of our milestones by actually getting the program started and retaining some of the athletes who have been with us since day one. what we hope to accomplish now is to attract more athletes from surrounding areas from both boys and girls leagues to help them improve their skills and to help them attain their personal goals.
